Of course the first thing that happened when I got on my plane was I had to find out who was sitting beside me... a yacker! She didn't stop talking the entire way to Dallas, TX (my first leg of the trip). Slept the second leg and arrive in Tucson, AZ late in the afternoon on Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Walked in to Pete's parents house (very nice by the way) and had a greek dish waiting to be eaten... yummo for pastichio!!!
Wednesday me, Pete, and Mike (pete's dad) headed to north Tucson to a Harley Davidson shop for my dad... We almost had to drag Mike away (he wanted a motorcycle so bad). For lunch we ate at "El Charro Cafe"... original mexican restaurant in the US! Best chicken tortilla soup I've ever tasted!
Thanksgiving day: same as everyone -- stuffed my face with ham, turkey, dressing and gravy, potato's, greenbean casserole, sweet potato casserole! I couldn't do anything after that, I was too stuffed! Later that night we sat around playing board games (my team won)!
Friday I got to meet some family friends that they knew when they lived in Germany (the Schenk's). Very nice people! When they left, I felt I'd known them all my life.
Saturday, Mike took Pete and I down to Sierra Vista to another Harley shop... Apparently we were extremely close to the Mexico border because I could see the blimp that hoovers over the border... not to mention, we had to go through a border patrol check point coming back -- a little scary! Our next stop was "El Charro Cafe" again (I couldn't get enough of it) and then on to the University of Arizona (Pete's a huge fan)! After running to the bookstore, we made it with 15 minutes for Pete to find some gear he wanted. Then we walked around and looked at the campus. Ending our visit at the university by standing feet away from the stadium! It was definitely cool! Got back to the house, and for the first time ever, bid on ebay (and to top that off, I won)!
Sunday morning rolled around quickly and I was flying back to Atlanta. Had an 1 1/2 hour layover in Dallas and then a 30 min delay in the air before we touched down... I couldn't get off the plane fast enough!
Overall, a wonderful trip! I can't wait to go back and visit again! The terrain out there isn't like anything I'd ever seen before! It was beautiful! The mountains were very rugged and jagged! You'd think you were looking out across the dessert and then realize you were look at homes... Strange to see, but very amazing! Everything had the same hue to it -- a dessert beige/green. Everywhere you looked, you saw mountains... Their backyard was a scene to see too... Even heard coyote's one night (scary)!
Seems like it was a lifetime ago already. Can't wait to go back and visit again!
